[Map] The Old Mine

This is a small mine, that can be functional or abandoned, but I wanted to add two points of interest there.

First place is a larger cave with some mining equipment. Here the characters might even find some raw valuables originally mined from the tunnels and some tools that are still usable.

Roll d12:
1: Gems (2d10 x 50 gp)
2: Gold (worth 3d6 x 10 gp)
3: Silver (worth 3d8 x 10 sp)
4: Copper (worth 3d10 x 10 cp)
5: A pickaxe
6: A shovel
7: A hooded lantern + oil
8: A sledge hammer
9: A rope
10: 1d6 torches
11: A vial of acid
12: A birdcage with an undead bird

The second location is another large cavern with a small pool of water at the center of it. Here the miners started to dig a tunnel, but found something buried deep underground. A sarcophagus or a coffin of sorts. The coffin is empty at the moment, but there is a sword covered in black dirt lying next to it. If the sword is examined closer and cleaned, it is actually a masterfully forged sword (Blade of Light. magical +1, can Turn Undead as a 5th level Cleric with WIS 12 once a day, evil or undead characters who touch the sword suffer 1d4 Radiant damage per turn).

As the characters investigate the coffin and/or the blade, something crawls at them from the shadows…

Roll d6*:
1: Skeletons
2: Zombies
3: Ghouls
4: Shadows
5: Spectres
6: Vampire Spawns

*re-roll if not appropriate. Use any number or creatures necessary to give the characters a fight.

In addition to these locations, you can add what ever little extra encounters and treasure your adventure and/or party needs.

[Map] The Tainted Mausoleum

At first look the The Tainted Mausoleum doesn’t look like much. It is a building made out of stone and its outer walls are mostly covered in vines and moss. Behind those the walls are decorated with statues and engravings that depict various human-like figures in stoic poses and below these figures, behind the thick grass and bushes that go around the building, there are other figures lying down at the feet of the standing figures and these have clearly human features. Their facial expressions are distorted by anquish and pain. Some of them look dead.

The interior of the building looks  unassuming and mirthless. The floors and walls are made out of stone. The stonework is good, but the air smells damp and moldy and everything is covered in dust or mold. In some corners  there are small patches of strange looking fungi growing out of the cracks in the walls and floor tiling.

But the building is not as empty and uninhabited as it might look like. There are stairs leading downstairs into two different locations…

[Map] The Hidden Tomb of the Last Master

The forbidden scriptures that were saved from the destruction of the temple’s library had crucial information about the location of Master Noc’dur hidden tomb.  Master Noc’dur was one of the last Guardians who was able to fold space by manipulating the Light.

The tomb was built inside a mountain to protect it from uninvited guests and terrible storms and hurricanes that are common in the area. The main entrance to the tomb collapsed hundreds of years ago in an unusually strong earthquake, but a secret entrance – or a backdoor – should be still accessible through the caverns inside the mountain.

The Dark Brotherhood has recently learned about Master Noc’dur’s tomb and they have sent their best Seekers to find it. They must be after the Master Noc’dur’s Codex of Light that was buried in the tomb with him. The codex must be found before the Brotherhood finds it. If they do, they could learn to master the forgotten techniques it holds and none of the remaining exile Guardians would be safe anymore.

[Map] The Fallen Keep

The Fallen Keep lies on the edge of the Veles Bamjar or the Spider Forest. It once were an Volodorian outpost guarding the trade routes that went through the deep forest from the coast to the capitol of Volodor in the shadows of the White Mountains, but for three hundred years it has been abandoned and after that it has been a home to a many kinds of creatures.

During its almost three hundred years of abandonment the keep has crumbled into a ruin. Its curtain walls shattered by many winters and the tower has collapsed into a stump of what it used to be. The dungeons and cellars beneath the tower have remained in better condition, but at some point goblins, ankhegs or whatever darkness dwelling creatures have burrowed a tunnel breaking into the lower cellar level of the tower.

[Map] The Broken Bridge, pt. 2

049_broken_brige_pt2-web

Deep inside the Shard Mountain and beneath a towering spire are the dungeons and the halls that once acted as the entrance to the great tower. Now the bridge connecting the inner halls to the entrance on the side of the mountain, is broken and the the abandoned halls and chambers are inhabited by vile creatures and horrible monsters.

This map can be used with the Broken Bridge map or as a separate map. I’ll probably make a third part of the tower itself a bit later.

[Map] The Outlaw Artificers’ Hideout

This was the first map I released in August on Patreon. It’s a hideout for some sort of a cabal of outlaw artificers or other practitioners of questionable arcane arts. I thought the artificers could also be some kind of alchemists or warlocks, dabbling with wondorous items, magic potions and such. This might even be a hiding place for a witch coven or a dark cult.

[Map] Style study: Halls of the Mimics

Here’s a map I did to test this specific style. This is not something that I’m intended to do regularly, but maybe adopt some influences or techniques from these kind of maps.

[Map] The Goblin Lair

047_goblin_lair-web

Here’s the first actual adventure map we played through with my kids in our D&D5e summer campaign (although, I have feeling that this campaign will be much longer than the notoriously short Finnish summer).

The adventurers went to investigate strange thundering noises and lights coming from a narrow pass in the nearby mountains. What they found was a mostly abandoned goblin lair and strange eerie noises coming from the caverns ob the side of the mountain.

As the three brave heroes (Nadar the Dragonborn Cleric, Damai the Tiefling Ranger and Reyny the Half-elf Rogue) exlored the cavers, they found out that one of the caves lead deep into old ruins inside the mountain.

[Map] The Broken Bridge

045_the_broken_bridge-web

This map is dedicated to Sophia, one of my very first patrons. She was  entitled to request a custom map, but instead of giving me instructions she replied: “I don’t have any preference. I mostly want to support your work“.  This was of course very kind and generous of her, but still I wanted to make a map for her. So, I asked what is her favorite genre and I ended up drawing this map.

The Broken Bridge of the Ironspire

Under the dunes of Vaél lie the long forgotten remains of the great Empire of Azuria.

Before the green plains of Vaél turned into an endless desert, the once great empire of Azuria spanned from the western shores of Argouna all the way to the Eastern Kingdoms. Now the Empire has been in ruins for a hundred generations and it’s been taken over by savage creatures and horrible monsters.

In the desert of Vaél there is a shard-like mountain that has cracked in half. The taller half of the mountain has been carved into an immensely high tower of stone and iron, and the other half hides  the entrance to the tower.  There used to be stairs leading up to the entrance, but those have been collapsed and crumbled into a pile of sand and small rocks long, long ago. A brave and able-bodied adventurer can climb the steep side of the Shard Mountain and enter the dungeons of the Ironspire…
