[Map] The Dungeon of Trials

The immortal oracle lives at the center of the Dungeon of Trials. Many have tried to reach the oracle for their wisdom, but only few have returned with answers. Those who have returned, have told of harrowing visions, terrible traps and unimaginable creatures lurking in the halls and corridors of this spiraling dungeon.

For this map I tried to test an alternative for the hatching that I have used previously. Also, I wanted to practice a bit the use of colors. This adds quite a few steps to my normal workflow (i.e. at least doubles the time per map), but I must say that the result is also worth it.

I hope you like it ūüôā

[Map] The Flying Sanctuary

The Flying Sanctuary is an ancient temple floating high above the clouds. ¬†The temple is built on a group of floating islands and it’s told to have the spirit of an immortal oracle bound into a golden animated statue. The old tales tell that the Golden Oracle can tell the future and look into any living creatures soul.

Some adventure hooks:

  • The monastery was abandoned ages ago and is now guarded by the construct monks serving the oracle.
  • The Flying Sanctuary was invaded by the storm pirates and the monks fled the monastery. They are trying to find someone to fight the storm pirates and save the Golden Oracle before it’s too late.
  • The Golden Oracle has foreseen a great evil approaching. It sends one of its clockwork pigeons to find the characters. When the characters arrive to the monastery it seems abandoned, but the Golden Oracle has laid out various traps, puzzles and adversaries to challenge and test the adventurers before they can meet the oracle.
  • The adventurer’s hear about this mysterious flying temple from an old airship sailor in a tavern. They are told that the temple still holds great treasure and the sailor is willing to guide the adventurers to the temple, if they get their share of the loot.

And as a note, of course this map can be set on a high mountain top instead of a floating island if it suits your setting better.

[Map] The Cursed Dungeons

Cursed isometric maps! They are soooo pretty, but cause me a headache every single time ūüėÄ

About a year ago I bought a drawing pad which has different kinds of pages, most are blank, some have hexes or straight grids and some have isometric grids. The isometric grids are really handy when drawing isometric maps, but I just can’t wrap my head around how to draw the different overlaying parts of the map. Well, this is one take on this particular pet peewie of mine. To be honest, I think it turned out quite good, even though I did not add any interior details for it to keep it clean and easier to read.

I hope you like it and find use for it ūüôā

[Map] The Dungeons of the Rat Cult

The old dwarven halls have been abandoned for tens of years. The stories about the horrible plague that wiped out the original dwellers of the vaults have kept the curious away from the vaults. The few who have wandered into the empty halls have not returned from their journeys.

The old dwarven halls are now inhabited by the secretive and vile Rat Cult that capture lone and careless travelers. The cultists cannibalize their captives and use them for their terrifying rituals where they wish to be gifted by the Great Mother and turned into wererats.

This map is based on a request by one of my $3 patrons and there will be probably a second level for this map later.

[Map] Cellar Catacombs

For some time already I’ve wanted to make a map of catacombs and decided to combine this with a classic wine cellar. This is designed to be used with the Hospital Monastery map, but I think it works also as a stand-alone map.

Perhaps even a cult hideout where they do vile experiments on captives or use them to feed the undead or other horrible creatures they are hiding in the catacombs.

[Map] Dungeons of Deception

This map works as a stand alone map or as an underground level for the previsouly released The Icon of Deception  map.  There are also stairs leading down, with allows this map to be connected with yet another dungeon level of your choice.

I wanted to do this map in a more traditional OSR style with less details to leave more open interpretation and room for your own plans.

There are still a couple of details like the broken statue in a half-collapsed room and the room with eight statues, an altar and a bunch of traps. Feel free to make this room / encounter as deadly and nasty as you like ūüėÄ

[Map] The Old Mine

This is a small mine, that can be functional or abandoned, but I wanted to add two points of interest there.

First place is a larger cave with some mining equipment. Here the characters might even find some raw valuables originally mined from the tunnels and some tools that are still usable.

Roll d12:
1: Gems (2d10 x 50 gp)
2: Gold (worth 3d6 x 10 gp)
3: Silver (worth 3d8 x 10 sp)
4: Copper (worth 3d10 x 10 cp)
5: A pickaxe
6: A shovel
7: A hooded lantern + oil
8: A sledge hammer
9: A rope
10: 1d6 torches
11: A vial of acid
12: A birdcage with an undead bird

The second location is another large cavern with a small pool of water at the center of it. Here the miners started to dig a tunnel, but found something buried deep underground. A sarcophagus or a coffin of sorts. The coffin is empty at the moment, but there is a sword covered in black dirt lying next to it. If the sword is examined closer and cleaned, it is actually a masterfully forged sword (Blade of Light. magical +1, can Turn Undead as a 5th level Cleric with WIS 12 once a day, evil or undead characters who touch the sword suffer 1d4 Radiant damage per turn).

As the characters investigate the coffin and/or the blade, something crawls at them from the shadows…

Roll d6*:
1: Skeletons
2: Zombies
3: Ghouls
4: Shadows
5: Spectres
6: Vampire Spawns

*re-roll if not appropriate. Use any number or creatures necessary to give the characters a fight.

In addition to these locations, you can add what ever little extra encounters and treasure your adventure and/or party needs.

[Map] The Tainted Mausoleum

At first look the The Tainted Mausoleum doesn’t look like much. It is a building made out of stone and its outer walls are mostly covered in vines and moss. Behind those the walls are decorated with statues and engravings that depict various human-like figures in stoic poses and below these figures, behind the thick grass and bushes that go around the building, there are other figures lying down at the feet of the standing figures and these have clearly human features. Their facial expressions are distorted by anquish and pain. Some of them look dead.

The interior of the building looks  unassuming and mirthless. The floors and walls are made out of stone. The stonework is good, but the air smells damp and moldy and everything is covered in dust or mold. In some corners  there are small patches of strange looking fungi growing out of the cracks in the walls and floor tiling.

But the building is not as empty and uninhabited as it might look like. There are stairs leading downstairs into two different locations…

[Map] The Hidden Tomb of the Last Master

The forbidden scriptures that were saved from the destruction of the temple’s library had crucial information about the location of Master Noc’dur hidden tomb. ¬†Master Noc’dur was one of the last Guardians who was able to fold space by manipulating the Light.¬†

The tomb was built inside a mountain to protect it from uninvited guests and terrible storms and hurricanes that are common in the area. The main entrance to the tomb collapsed hundreds of years ago in an unusually strong earthquake, but a secret entrance ‚Äď or a backdoor ‚Äď should be still accessible through the caverns inside the mountain. ¬†

The Dark Brotherhood has recently learned about Master Noc’dur’s tomb and they have sent their best Seekers to find it. They must be after the Master Noc’dur’s Codex of Light that was buried in the tomb with him. The codex must be found before the Brotherhood finds it. If they do, they could learn to master the forgotten techniques it holds and none of the remaining exile Guardians would be safe anymore.¬†

[Map] The Fallen Keep

The Fallen Keep lies on the edge of the Veles Bamjar or the Spider Forest. It once were an Volodorian outpost guarding the trade routes that went through the deep forest from the coast to the capitol of Volodor in the shadows of the White Mountains, but for three hundred years it has been abandoned and after that it has been a home to a many kinds of creatures.

During its almost three hundred years of abandonment the keep has crumbled into a ruin. Its curtain walls shattered by many winters and the tower has collapsed into a stump of what it used to be. The dungeons and cellars beneath the tower have remained in better condition, but at some point goblins, ankhegs or whatever darkness dwelling creatures have burrowed a tunnel breaking into the lower cellar level of the tower.
