[Map] The Buried Bioship

Deep under the icy landscape there’s a starcraft buried in the snow and ice. Perhaps someone has excavated a tunnel in the ice or there’s a weird teleportation device keeping a small chamber around it melted in the ice.

I drew inspiration for the shape from the spaceship in the marvelous Valerian comics (there’s a movie coming in the summer) and otherwise tried to have a bit Alien Engineer feel to it ‚Äď biomechanic devices, organic layout and weird apparatuses and chambers with strange vases filled with black goo, etc…

If I’ll just have a chance, I know where I’m going to use this. I hope you’ll find use for this too ūüėÄ

[Map] Tarakov 10-40 Modular Fast Hauler

Tarakov 10-40 is a modular freighter with powerful engines. It is widely used as a fast interstellar cargo hauler and an emergency space vehicle. The ship can carry up to four cargo modules, so it’s not typically used to haul bulk cargo, but more precious items instead. Typical cargo can include medical supplies, tools, spare parts, luxuries or valuable ores.

The 10-40 is also often seen in salvage operations as its cargo modules can be exchanged for utility and drone modules and the ship’s powerful engines can easily tug heavier ship wrecks for planetary distances. Usually the wreck is hauled away from debris or asteroid fields to a safer location where the hull is stripped from any salvageable parts and other valuables.

[Map] Port Sentinel

Port Sentinel is small city with a significant star paladin temple next to it.

The map is made according to one of my $5 tier patron’s wishes ( I hope I got most of the things right ūüėÄ ) and features a city with multiple towers, “a star paladin” temple and a construction yard. There are some roads but most of the traffic consists of speeders and other flying vehicles. One grid square equals about 100 feet or 30 meters.

South-West of the city stands a majestic star paladin temple high above the city. It is built on an elevated ledge and surrounded by a lake. Next to the sea shore, on the North-Western border of the city there’s a construction yard with huge cranes, watermills and steaming pipes.

[Map] Private Zoo

This private zoo of an eccentric collector or a crime lord is built inside a small crater. The center of the zoo has no roof and features an exotic beast burrowed underground. The building is not designed for permanent residents, but has a single bedroom with facilities for extended stays.

I got the idea for this map from one of my $5 tier patrons and it was very interesting to design. Not too many private zoo maps out there either ūüôā Also, the idea behind this map was that the zoo cages would not hold only beasts, but various sentient species. What a twisted and great idea for a more nefarious villain! (like a particularly nasty Hutt crime lord, for example).

I hope you like this one or find it inspiring.

[Map] Science Outpost

Here’s another science/ research station which is based on the science outpost seen in Rogue One. This does not try to be an exact copy of it, but I imagined a science outpost located on a remote system with really terrible weather conditions ūüėÄ

The station has a single landing pad protruding from a rocky cliff and the outpost is built inside the mountain wall. Below the platform there waves are hitting the rocky shore hard  (or perhaps its a river of lava?).

In the reaserch section of this outpost I tried to draw something that looks like cloning vats or containers holding alien lifeforms. Maybe something has gotten loose on the station and the PCs are sent to investigate what has happened. Or maybe they are sent to rescue a scientist who’s being kept on the station against their will?

[Map] A.I. Research Station

The premise for this map was an A.I. core, but that actually reminded me of a setting backstory of my upcoming military scifi RPG Sotakarjut (Warhogs) where the first truly self-aware artificial intelligence was developed in a research station hidden inside an asteroid. So, I drew inspiration from that idea and decided to draw this map.

The station comes with two levels, the main level has the crew quarters and a big operations center. the lower (or upper) level has the mainframe, engineering, life support and the AI core rooms.

I hope you like this.

[Map] Space Wreck

I have a thing with wrecked spaceships ūüôā I like to design these maps and add a few twists. Lately I haven’t been able to do that many of these, but I have some plans to make parts of ships and space stations that are in varying conditions.

This is just a regular spaceship with a horizontal layout which in itself hints to some sort of artificial gravity and inertial dampening technology. So, this map is probably more suitable for space opera settings like Star Wars or Traveller.

I added the atmospheric indication colors there as an extra feature. The drone bay and the engineering sections are filled with toxic fumes that can be recycled away if the air filtration system (accessible through the service hatch in the engineering) is fixed.

Also, I thought it might be an interesting challenge to find someone still hibernating in a cryostatis pod, but as the pods are in vacuum, it might pose some difficulties getting the person out of the pod alive.

I hope you like this and find use for it.

[Map] Rebel Cell Hideout

Inspired by the new Star Wars movie I wanted to draw some kind of a hidden rebel base. Not a big one, more like a hideout for a small rebel cell that operates from an abandoned outpost, temple or something like that.

I made the main entrance blocked by debris and rocks so it would seem that the building is really abandoned and inaccessible. But a little to the side of the main entrance there is a narrow passage that leads inside the hideout.

I thought the hidden entrance would be of course guarded at all times and probably booby-trapped too in case of ininvited guests. The base itself is quite simple. There are facilities for the rebel fighters, a small command center, a separate chamber for the rebel leader and and a small jail for possible prisoners.

I hope you find this useful!

[Map] The Guardian Monastery

I saw Rogue One when it came to the movies. So far I’ve seen it twice, and I really liked the gritty feel in the movie. I especially liked how the planet of Jeddah looked. That inspired me to draw a forsaken or hidden monastery somewhere deep in the wilderness.

Maybe this monastery has already been raided by the forces of the tyrannical empire and they have left some droids to guard the site in case someone still wanders there. Or perhaps there are still some brave space knights hiding in the monastery (perhaps they have even started to lose their sanity for some reason?) and guarding the last pieces of the valued crystals and old archives that were not destroyed in the Great Purge.

[Map] The Archive Tower

So, I went to see Rogue One – A Star Wars Story in the movies on the premiere day and I thought the movie was awesome. But, let’s not go to that any more than that right now ūüėÄ

Anyway, the movies had again great and inspiring locations and this map is based on a location in the movie. The scale is different and the layout does not match all the way, but as said: it is inspired by a location in Rogue One.

This is an archive tower. A combination of a databank and a communications tower. It is used for archiving important information and to send it ¬†to the ¬†nearby star systems through it’s powerful communications dish on top of it.

I did not intentionally draw any environment around the map since I thought that it might be used even as a space station if needed.

A quick summary of different levels:

  • Level 0 – Crew quarters, storages, messhall and operations control.
  • Level 1 – Main archive vaults I, II and III
  • Level 2 – Mainframe units
  • Level 3 – Communications center and encryption computers
  • Level 4 – Engineering and communications dish engines
  • Level 5 – Communications dish manual alignment controls and backup communications terminal.

I hope you like the map and find it useful.
