[Map] Rebel Cell Hideout

Inspired by the new Star Wars movie I wanted to draw some kind of a hidden rebel base. Not a big one, more like a hideout for a small rebel cell that operates from an abandoned outpost, temple or something like that.

I made the main entrance blocked by debris and rocks so it would seem that the building is really abandoned and inaccessible. But a little to the side of the main entrance there is a narrow passage that leads inside the hideout.

I thought the hidden entrance would be of course guarded at all times and probably booby-trapped too in case of ininvited guests. The base itself is quite simple. There are facilities for the rebel fighters, a small command center, a separate chamber for the rebel leader and and a small jail for possible prisoners.

I hope you find this useful!

[Map] The Guardian Monastery

I saw Rogue One when it came to the movies. So far I’ve seen it twice, and I really liked the gritty feel in the movie. I especially liked how the planet of Jeddah looked. That inspired me to draw a forsaken or hidden monastery somewhere deep in the wilderness.

Maybe this monastery has already been raided by the forces of the tyrannical empire and they have left some droids to guard the site in case someone still wanders there. Or perhaps there are still some brave space knights hiding in the monastery (perhaps they have even started to lose their sanity for some reason?) and guarding the last pieces of the valued crystals and old archives that were not destroyed in the Great Purge.

[Map] The Region of Walkia-Caisla

Here is a little regional map that I made for our adventures in our homebrewn D&D 5e campaign setting. I added a few locations to give some places to visit and add some adventure hooks to.

I’m planning to make more detailed maps of these locations on the map as our adventure progresses or when I get an inspiration.

[Map] The Archive Tower

So, I went to see Rogue One – A Star Wars Story in the movies on the premiere day and I thought the movie was awesome. But, let’s not go to that any more than that right now 😀

Anyway, the movies had again great and inspiring locations and this map is based on a location in the movie. The scale is different and the layout does not match all the way, but as said: it is inspired by a location in Rogue One.

This is an archive tower. A combination of a databank and a communications tower. It is used for archiving important information and to send it  to the  nearby star systems through it’s powerful communications dish on top of it.

I did not intentionally draw any environment around the map since I thought that it might be used even as a space station if needed.

A quick summary of different levels:

  • Level 0 – Crew quarters, storages, messhall and operations control.
  • Level 1 – Main archive vaults I, II and III
  • Level 2 – Mainframe units
  • Level 3 – Communications center and encryption computers
  • Level 4 – Engineering and communications dish engines
  • Level 5 – Communications dish manual alignment controls and backup communications terminal.

I hope you like the map and find it useful.

[Map] The Mountain Lair

There are rumors of a horrible creature that lives in a cave hidden on the cliffsides of a mist covered mountain. It is told that ages ago some kind of cult held its unholy ceremonies in those caves and as a result of their rites the creature was born.

As I added the annotations on the map, I tried to give some adventure hooks, while keeping them still generic enough, so this map would work with modern occult or fantasy settings alike.

I hope you find the map inspiring and fun to play.

[Map] The Ruined City

The Ruined City a.k.a. The City of Ruins was requested by one of my $5 patrons who wanted to have a map of a part of a gigantic ancient city that lies now in ruins. Because of the deadline, I got a little help from my colleague, who did a quick sketch of the city layout on computer and I drew over it and added the details and shading. It was actually a very interesting mixed technique to work with. I might try that in the future again.

[Map] The Small Farm

044_small_farm-web

By a stream running through the woods there’s a small farm with a small two-storied house and a barn with a pigpen and a small cattle pen for cows or horses.

This remote farm can be used in a fantasy or contemporary setting with ease, and why not in some near future or post-apocalyptic settings too.

Even though this looks like a harmless little farm, who knows what mystery it hides. Perhaps its inhabitants are strange folk with dark secrets or the farm is abandoned, but it has a past that is better to be forgotten. Or maybe this small farm can act as a temporary hideout for the player characters or some criminals the players are after.

So, what is special about this small farm?

[Map] A River and a Road

039_river_and_road-web

Now, looking back a few months, I’ve noticed that my skills have improved nicely. Besides honing my skills, I think I’ve started to find my own style too. I try to improve and learn all the time and find new ways to do things, but I also try to keep a certain level of consistency in my maps. I can do different styles when needed, but my goal is to create a certain signature style that people can recognize when they see one of my maps.

But, back to this map 🙂

This map is another “basic map” with no special secrets or exotic buildings. This is just a part of a road that goes by a river (or more likely a stream in this map). But still I tried to include some interesting terrain features like the fallen tree, some rock and a small opening. All kinds of events or encounters could take place on this map, I think.

Sotakarjut

karju_logolla

Hi, just wanted to let you know that there’s a reason for being a bit less productive with the maps lately. I have been working my ass off during my free-time to get my next RPG’s crowdfunding started. The game is in Finnish and it’s a military scifi RPG mixing techno thriller and spy action genres.

To give a quick impression on what Sotakarjut, or Warhogs, is about here’s a very short summary:

It’s year 2310. Mankind has spread among the starts within approximately 50 light-year radius from Sol and Earth. Most of the colonies are governed by the Federation which is more like a  puppet government for the hyper-corporations that control most of the natural resources, technological infrastructure and economy – on Earth and off-world colonies.

kollektiivi

The Third Exowar has raged on for the last ten years. It started as small conflicts in the outer colonies. Poor settlers rioted against the corporate rule and Federation’s peacekeepers were sent to pacify the situation. But the fighting went on. Terrorist organizations all around the colonies started to fight against the Federation and the hyper-corporations behind its rule.

Everything changed when an alien super-culture called Collective attacked a remote archaeological outpost. The Collective was technologically superior and Federation Army suffered great losses. The warhogs, human-pig hybrid clones were developed to fight the Collective threat and the tide of war turned from a losing war into a trench warfare.

The player characters are warhogs. But not like all the other clones. Their mind hides an infiltrated consciousness. A human mind buried deep in the subconsciousness of a warhog. A bit by bit, with different sensory triggers, the mnemonic locks and safe guards of the trojan agent are unlocked and the character starts to remember who they are and why they are in a warhog’s body.

So, that’s it briefly explained 🙂

Here’s a link to the campaign if you want to take a look. There’s a one minute trailer there which might give you some idea of the game.

The amazing art is by Hans Zenjuga, who will be illustrating the book if we reach our goal (which seems very probable at the moment…).

And if this does well in Finland, I’ll need to seriously consider an English translation 🙂

Miska over and out.
