[Map] The Icon of Deception

050_icon_of_deception-web

What looks like a dull and ill kept old stone keep hides a beautiful garden and a giant statue made of gold inside its cold walls. But like its outer appearance, everything in this temple is not as it looks.

Originally I drew this temple to try out two things: a sort of inner yard and  thick castle walls.

I don’t know why, but I find it somehow difficult to draw the thick walls like in medieval castles. It’s like I always leave too little room either for the rooms or the walls. I think I need to get some more practice on a graph paper.

Another thing was the inner yard. I find it interesting to have a large dungeon complex, for example, and then there would be a beautiful open garden all of a sudden. I think I’m going to do something like that soon-ish. This does not really convey that idea, but still works as a contrasting feature within this thick walled stone temple.

[Map] The Broken Bridge, pt. 2

049_broken_brige_pt2-web

Deep inside the Shard Mountain and beneath a towering spire are the dungeons and the halls that once acted as the entrance to the great tower. Now the bridge connecting the inner halls to the entrance on the side of the mountain, is broken and the the abandoned halls and chambers are inhabited by vile creatures and horrible monsters.

This map can be used with the Broken Bridge map or as a separate map. I’ll probably make a third part of the tower itself a bit later.

[Minis] Hero Forge miniatures review

2016-08-06-10-23-21

We started a Dungeons & Dragons campaign with my three oldest kids in June (we have an Obsidian Portal page for the campaign, but it’s in Finnish…) and for the first couple of times we did not use any minis, but then I found some of my old fantasy minis stored in boxes with miniature bitz. I had some old Lord of the Rings and Warhammer Fantasy Battle minis and a few collectible D&D miniatures, but not that many figures for the heroes. First we browsed through the Reaper Miniatures‘ selection and found a couple miniatures that did the job, but then I remembered Hero Forge custom miniatures. I checked their website and it seemed to have a range of selection with all the needed options.

[Map] The Outlaw Artificers’ Hideout

This was the first map I released in August on Patreon. It’s a hideout for some sort of a cabal of outlaw artificers or other practitioners of questionable arcane arts. I thought the artificers could also be some kind of alchemists or warlocks, dabbling with wondorous items, magic potions and such. This might even be a hiding place for a witch coven or a dark cult.
